Kayla L. Cloonan is an emerging contemporary abstract artist working in painting, drawing, sculpture and installation. Beginning artistic training in photography, she continued on to pursue a variety of media receiving her B.F.A. in Painting at the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2013. Her first solo exhibition was held upon graduation at Indigo Sky Community Gallery in Savannah, Georgia entitled non-verbal which included paintings, drawings, sculptures and a live performance. Since moving to Los Angeles, CA, Kayla has been involved in two group shows and continues to produce work in her studio in North Hollywood.
“My work undergoes a process best described as excavation. A constant covering and uncovering, an image folded and masked and thus transformed through flat or sculptural means. That exploration of material and layers create a history of mark. It is a constant discourse between happenstance and refinement.”
